This isn't a commonly held attitude among knitters but I love math. I can often be found to make up math problems just so I can solve them. I have no problem altering patterns (and often have to due to gauge or size issues. Why is it that I can buy a medium shirt and yet have to wear extra extra large sweaters?) However some math we are better off not knowing, for instance she did a little math and found that math added a realization of 9000 extra stitches (before she got to the arms). I did a little math the other night, too. I decided the vacation log cabin blanket shouldn't be just another throw blanket. I love this thing. It should be a full size blanket I can use on my bed. So I did a little Google search for "standard" blanket sizes and decided on 80" x 90" since the squares are about 10" each. It is easy math until you get the answer -- 72. Yes, seventy two squares to make a full/queen size blanket. I am right on track for finishing one a week (which had been my goal), that means I finish the end of November 2007.
They are absolutely lovely and easy and fun (great for social knitting when you aren't completely concentrating on your knitting and while the dial up connections takes forever to load). The blanket is so much fun...

It's going to be so pretty. I have an entrelac blanket I'm attempting to make for my Mom. I worked it our and it will have roughly 60 "tiers" I'm on 4 and all i can think abour is the bag of yarn sitting next to me that is to become this blanket.
