Knitting 40 shades of green

Oops.

I am not really very good at follow through lately.  Maybe I should make that  a goal for December.  For instance...

1. I totally flubbed NABLOPOMO.  After spending 3 hours on my birthday with a tech support person the evening before my birthday and not getting my computer to connect to DSL.  Well, I was demoralized with the whole blog thing and didn't post for the rest of the month.  Ah, well.
2. It is "black" Friday where the whole point of the day seems to be shopping.  People have died when  shoppers broke down the doors of a Walmart.  Really, is this fun?  I would have made a big deal about Buy Nothing Day But I knew I would need to stop for gas and would likely have a few beers tonight at the Capitals game.
3. I wanted to tell you about some knitting this month but I haven't taken a picture all month.
4. I have a report on my field trip with Slow Food DC two weekends ago but haven't typed it up yet.
5. My CSAs are wrapping up for the year.  I picked up my last box from Food Matters and have just 2 more pick-ups from Olin Fox Farms.  I have cooked tons of great food to share with you but again without the pictures.  Better haul out that camera.




Well, with the new month almost upon us, how about I post a little more...

November 5: another year older

Well, four days in and already I have missed a day. I spent over 2 hours trying to download a picture on dial up and finally decided to go to bed. I have DSL now and apparently, my computer has to have some software removed and reinstalled to get the signal. So, so much for the post a day. I had written a long post about new years and changes and how I am excited about my birthday today and even tried to share some pictures when the whole thing just wouldn't cooperate. Here is a before and after picture of my haircut that Bill has been badgering me to show...
I am starting my 38th year short and sassy and ready for good times.

Go Vote!!

I mean it.  If you you haven't taken advantage of early voting, and you live in the US, you need to get out that door and head to your polling place.  Take ID, take your knitting or a crossword puzzle, take a chair, take snacks...you may have to wait in line.  But that inconvience is nothing compared to the people who have fought and given their lives so that we can take part in this democracy (I typed democrazy maybe my subliminal mind is saying something), representational though it may be.  We are no longer ruled by a king, we no longer need to be land owners to vote, we no longer need to be men or white.  So take advantage of this great privilage and take part in an election that will be historic no matter who wins.

And since we mostly know where I lay on the political front, I will share  my favorite poster from the anti Palin rally that was held in Alaska shortly after she was selected for the VP slate.

NABLOPOMO year 3, day 2 still there is zucchini

I went to pick up my CSA share from Food Matters and was a bit surprised to see what is likely the last of the summer vegetables.  There next to the acorn squash and some red tomatoes still showing a greenish blush were two zucchinis.  Another opportunity to use the eggs I have been getting from Olin Fox Farms to make my new favorite zucchini dish.  I will share this recipe with you using photos I took earlier in the summer when I couldn't seem to get blogging.  So in case you happen to have zucchini lying around, here it is.

Greek Zucchini Pie

(adapted slightly from Veggie Venture)

• 4 cups zucchini, thinly sliced (if you own a mandolin this is a great use for it)
• I cup onion (or green onions or whatever onion like thing you have on hand)
• 1 tablespoon olive oil
• 5 eggs
• 1 cup yogurt (Greek if you can get it -- Blue Ridge Dairy has started carrying this at the farmer's market)
• 1 cup flour
• 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
• 1 teaspoon salt
• 4 ounces feta cheese
• 1 cup Parmesan (or Italian blend will work if that is what is in the fridge)
• 1 cup fresh dill
• freshly ground pepper

1. Preheat oven to 350° F. 
2. Heat the oil in a large skillet. Add the zucchini and onion and stir often until almost cooked thorough.
3. In a large bowl whisk the eggs until light and fluffy.  Whisk in yogurt, baking powder, flour and salt.  Stir in the zucchini mixture, cheese, and dill.
4. Spread in a 12 X 9 Pyrex baking dish.  Bake for 1 hour or until golden on top.  Let rest 10 to 15 minutes before serving or serve at room temperature.

Well, I might as well jump in with both feet and join National Blog Post Month again this year since I have finally broken down and ordered DSL service.  Hopefully, this will make blogging easier and I can share insights, knitting, cooking and general craziness on a more regular basis.  So if there are any readers still out there I will attempt to post every day this month.  So stop by daily and see what I have to say.
