The season is changing here in Virginia and we are quickly shifting from the bounty of tomatoes and squash that is mid summer to fall crops. Apples and sweet potatoes have started showing up in my CSA share and the nights are cool now, I am looking forward to the fall greens and lettuces that will be coming soon.
For my One Local Summer meal this week I cooked up a melange of salads and sides. I made Herbed Potato Salad with green Beans and Tomatoes, okra and tomatoes, and a simple salad of young lettuce with mission figs and ricotta cheese (I had wanted goat cheese but it had spent a little too long in the fridge and I started looking for something else to contrast the sweet figs -- it wasn't bad but goat cheese would have been better)

Oh, that looks fantastic! I can't decide which is my favorite, figs or okra....

I have got to track down this Olin Fox Farms, I spend every weekend about 5 miles from there in the Northern Neck. You are right about the sudden shift in temperature and produce. I am hoping to get one more batch of great tomatoes at the farm stand on Friday. And the knitting content is??? Oh right, Guinness.
